Landscape design across Brisbane's inner west.

Hillside Queenslanders, jacaranda streets and deep riverside blocks: garden design for the river belt from Toowong to Mt Ommaney.

The inner west runs along the river, and the river explains almost everything about it. Queenslanders climb the hills at Toowong and Taringa; wide, tree-lined streets settle onto the flats through Graceville and Chelmer; and the Centenary suburbs follow the river's loops further out. It's a part of Brisbane where the street trees are often the best thing about a block, and a good garden design knows it.

Attn: Landscapes is a design-only landscape studio led by Shannon Trevisiol, a qualified landscape designer with more than a decade across residential projects and public parks. We produce the plans; independent contractors build from them, which keeps every design decision on your side of the table.

From hillside steps to river flats

On the hill suburbs, gardens work in section, not plan. A Toowong or Auchenflower block might fall several metres from street to back fence, so we design in terraces: landings, stairs and retaining that turn slope into usable rooms. It's the thinking behind our sloping block work, and around here it's the default, not the exception.

Down on the flats, the older river suburbs offer deep blocks, big skies and some of Brisbane's loveliest streets. On the lower-lying ones we design with wet weather in mind, so the planting shrugs off a soaked fortnight, the materials don't mind an occasional inundation, and the valuable elements are kept up high.

And in the tightest inner pockets (workers' cottages and courtyards toward Milton) we make small spaces work hard. Our small garden design page shows how much a courtyard can carry.

Gardens under big trees

Jacarandas, figs, camphor laurels: the inner west gardens under a canopy that took a century to grow. Designing near mature trees is a discipline: respecting root zones, choosing shade-tolerant layers, and treating dappled light as an asset rather than fighting it for lawn.

The payoff is character you can't buy at a nursery. A garden that works with an established jacaranda, or frames the neighbour's fig, feels settled from the day it's planted.

Suburbs we cover across the inner west

Along the hills and the river we cover Toowong, Auchenflower, Milton, St Lucia, Taringa and Indooroopilly; through the older river suburbs, Graceville, Chelmer, Sherwood, Corinda and Oxley; and around the river's western bends, Jindalee and Mt Ommaney.

To the west, Kenmore and Chapel Hill and the acreage of Brookfield and Pullenvale each have pages of their own. Anywhere between, we cover as a matter of course.

Starting your design

The first step is a Design Discovery Consultation, $350 on-site and the standard fee anywhere in the inner west. We walk the block together, and you come away with a design brief and a clear fee proposal for the next stage.

From there: concept design for the layout and palettes, detailed design for builder-ready drawings, and project oversight during construction if you'd like your designer alongside you to the end.

Common questions

Entirely. From Milton to Mt Ommaney, the $350 consultation fee applies with no surcharge, because travel fees only come into play outside our core Brisbane area.

No, this page covers the western river belt, but we design across the whole of Brisbane: northside, southside and the bayside included.

Terraced hillside gardens, courtyard designs for cottages on small lots, and full backyard redesigns on the river flats, often around a pool, a deck and mature trees. Concept fees generally land between $2,500 and $6,000, with detailed construction drawings from around $5,000.
