Just past Kenmore, the suburbs loosen their grip. Brookfield, Pullenvale and the river blocks of Fig Tree Pocket are Brisbane's semi-rural west: acreage in the Moggill Creek valley, horse paddocks behind post-and-rail, farm dams, remnant gums, and the Brookfield Show still on the calendar every year.

People move out here for room, then discover that room is its own design problem. A quarter-acre garden can be designed in one gesture; two hectares cannot. Acreage rewards a masterplan that settles where garden ends and paddock begins, then stages the work over years so every dollar lands somewhere deliberate.

Masterplan first

The expensive mistakes on acreage come from starting at the house and improvising outward: a shed landing in the best view line, a pool that misses the afternoon sun, an orchard planted where nobody can water it. Our acreage landscape design work begins with the whole property: views, contours, water, access and future builds resolved on one plan before any single project starts.

Staging is the point, not the compromise. With a masterplan in hand you might build the driveway and shelter planting this year, the entertaining terrace next, the dam edge the year after, and it reads as one intention when it's done.

Arrival is half the property

On these blocks you experience the property from the car before you ever stand in it. A Brookfield driveway can run a few hundred metres, and that arrival (the gate, the sweep of the drive, glimpses of the house through trunks, where visitors actually park) sets the tone for everything after it. It deserves design, not just gravel.

Big-canopy planting is the long game. Avenue figs, spotted gums, groves of tuckeroo: trees planted at this scale are what make a property feel established in twenty years rather than raw forever, and the earlier they go in the better (one more argument for planning first).

Paddock, dam and garden

Good acreage design draws a confident line between the cultivated and the kept-rough. A mown edge against long grass, post-and-rail, and a shift in planting density are the transitions that hold a manageable garden close to the house while the paddocks stay honest paddocks. It's also how maintenance stays sane on two hectares.

Dams are the most underused asset in the valley. Most were dug for stock and left bare, but with shaped edges, sedges and the right trees a dam becomes the best thing on the property. Moggill Creek frontage, where you have it, deserves the same care with locally suited native planting.

We begin with a Design Discovery Consultation ($350, on-site), with time allowed to walk the whole property rather than just the house garden. Concept masterplans typically run $2,500–$6,000, and detailed, builder-ready documentation from $5,000, staged to match how you want to build.
