Carindale was built through the 1980s and 90s and it shows in the best way: solid brick family homes on genuinely generous blocks, quiet curving streets and cul-de-sacs, and trees that have had thirty years to hit their stride, with the Bulimba Creek parklands running along the suburb's edge. What's dated isn't the suburb, it's the gardens.

Original paving, tired pool surrounds, shrubberies planted the year the house was finished: these are renovation briefs, not blank slates, and that's the interesting kind. The bones are already there. Our job is the edit: keep what's earned its place, redesign what hasn't, and give a good block the garden it deserved all along.

Good bones, dated details

A typical Carindale garden holds assets inner-city owners would pay dearly for: room for a pool, a proper lawn, and an outdoor room without crowding, plus real shade from mature trees. The blocks are at their most generous around the Pacific Golf Club and along the Bulimba Creek corridor. But these gardens also hold the era's habits: exposed-aggregate paths, brick planters, ageing palms and conifers, and a layout organised around the clothesline.

Renovating an established garden is editorial work. We keep the trees worth keeping, reuse sound levels and structures, and replace the surfaces and planting that date the place. The result reads as a new garden, but it arrives with a maturity new gardens wait a decade for.

Pools, patios, and proper outdoor rooms

Many Carindale pools went in with the houses and are due for a second act. Often the shell is fine: it's the surrounds doing the dating. New coping, paving, fencing, and planting can transform a 90s pool without touching the water, and we design those surrounds as part of the whole garden, not a patch job.

Privacy and street presence

As second storeys and infill arrive, screening has become a standard Carindale request, layered planting that gives the backyard its privacy back without walling in the block. The right species in the right positions beats defaulting to the same clipped screen along every fence.

Out the front, the brief is presence: planting and a new approach that bring a brick facade up to date without pretending it's a different house. A considered front garden does more for a 90s home than almost any other update, and a modern garden palette (clean lines, massed planting, real trees) suits these frontages well.
